COMMUNITY FUND

BriarPatch Co-op and our community
Will BriarPatch contribute money to community groups this year? Yes. How about next year? Yes. The year after that? Yes. How can we be so sure? Because in 2000 we started a Co-op Community Fund, an endowment from which we collect interest income for donations each year. In five years we've given away $6,200 to 27 groups, from the local food bank to the land trust to a childcare co-op. The donations have been small, $100 to $250 each, but the groups receiving them have expressed much gratitude. Our fund got its start with a $5000 grant from the regional Twin Pines Cooperative Foundation. We matched this and have added over $35,000 from many small fundraisers like raffles, silent auctions, and donation cans at the cash registers. Will we continue to build up our fund so that we can give more support to our community? Definitely!
